Starter Ukuleles?
I’m toying with the idea of playing the ukulele. I live in Nebraska, where ukes aren’t plentiful. However, my local music shop has a Kala maple laminate soprano uke with GHS strings and geared tuners for ~ $60.
Another uke I’ve heard good things about is the Flea uke. It has a plastic fingerboard and frets, plus an Ovation-style composite backing for projection. Most reviews on it are good, and the YouTube videos featuring them sound good. But it costs ~ $160, and has friction tuners. Does anybody have any experience with either uke? I’d like to support my local guitar shop, but I don’t know too much about Kala. I’d also welcome other suggestions. Thanks!
I think the Kala sounds like an excellent idea. I’m not thrilled with the Flea either. Friction tuners can be tricky little devils if you’re not used to them.
You may want to Google “ukuleles” because there’s an entire WORLD of info and really fun sites out there.
