How hard would it be for me to learn sitar?
I have very little musical background. I play the harmonium at a mediocre level and understand the theory music of India (India is myself).
What is needed is patience. Like the violin, sitar has many years of persistent effort. Take your time and stick with it. You could, but in a month or a year. Here's a site to try: http://www.sharda.org/ To become a beginner out on the violin that takes about 5 years. I hope that is the same for the sitar. Figure on 3 to 5 hours a week of practice. It is possible and is definitely worth the effort. Good luck!
